Sir Richard Catesby is a lawyer and currently serves as the Mayor of Newcastle. Although fiercely loyal to Queen Elizabeth, his elder brother, William, is notoriously Catholic and is rapidly depleting the family fortune on recusancy fines. As a younger brother, Richard has had to make his own way. After the completion of his law studies and a brief period practicing law in London, Richard moved north to the booming port town of Newcastle to make his fortune. After establishing himself as a trusted legal advisor to the major players in the coal trade, Catesby has become a successful coal trader himself and, with the influence of the Guild of Hostmen behind him, has risen to the top of Newcastle's civil government.
