Real Name: Mimi

Character Name: Constance Bidwell

Biography

Without a husband around, Constance, a hard-working, practical but often befuddled woman of uncertain age, takes odd jobs to make money, and often can be found working in an inn of many names.  She also takes in beadwork or other sewing for Judith Baxter, assists Griselda Sticknell or the Catesbys as a servant when they are traveling out of town, and sometimes takes employment as a “hawker” for local merchants.

Not many know that Constance is twice married.  She loves her current husband, George Bidwell,  a man with a rather unsavory reputation, very much.  Constance does not discuss her first husband,  Geoffrey Balfour, a tavern owner, who was found dead in his bed under mysterious circumstances.  (He is rumoured to have had a “second smile” a few inches below the first.)  George married Constance shortly thereafter.

However, in the past year, George sold the Cock and Bull tavern, previously owned by Constance's first husband, Geoffrey, took all the money and has "gone off to London to increase their fortunes." This happened, unfortunately, before they could have children. You should ask Constance about George. Though ordinarily a realist, she's rather optimistically in love with him and will go on and on about how she is "expecting his return at any moment..." Don't try to burst her bubble. She might start to cry. Constance loves to sing, especially drinking songs, and dance, and will often do so, sometimes even without being asked.
